A framed photographic portrait of Charles Dickens, together with a sheet of autographs of famous literary and artistic personalities of the day: Charles Dickens, John Tenniel, Wilkie Collins, Mark Lemon, Augustus Egg, Charles Knight, Peter Cunningham and W.H. Wills. Charles Dickens and Edward Bulwer Lytton established The Guild of Literature and Art in 1850 to benefit struggling authors and artists. Lytton wrote a comedy to be performed by Dickens' troup of celebrity friends. It was supported by the Duke of Devonshire and the first event attended by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. The signatories on this sheet were all members of the Guild and many were performers at their dramas.
