Manuscript map in colours on vellum, 775 x 985 mm. Though a little grubby and with a circular stain to the lower right, this is nevertheless a lovely manuscript map showing off both the surveyor’s accuracy and his artistic skills; the pastoral scene surrounding the title is particularly fine. The Witherden family owned these extensive lands for several centuries.
Title: A Map’s Mensuration of a Messuage, Buildings and Lands Call’d Thornden in the Parishes of Boughton Malherb, Ulcomb & Headcorn, in the County of Kent, belonging to Thomas Witherden of Wissenden, Esq.
