Old tape repair to the spine, some staining to plates, front end paper removed and the whole a little shaken. This, the presumed 1st English translation, is rare; no copies are located in the U.K. and only the U.C.L.A. copy in the U.S.A. a later edition [c. 1869]. Madame de Genlis was a French writer and educationalist who counted Louis Philippe, King of France among her pupils.
