HOWDENThe Ancient Historic Town Explored The majestic tower of Howden Minster is
well-known to all who travel past on the M62, but how many take the time to
visit what is probably Yorkshire's least appreciated small town? Howden, with
its winding streets and narrow lanes, has a townscape of great character. The
Minster and the neighbouring late 14th century manor house with its splendid
former grounds are reminders of the town's links with the bishops of Durham.
Throughout the town are fine Georgian and Victorian buildings reflecting a
prosperity founded on the marketing and processing of agricultural produce and
the renowned Howden Horse Fair.
Howden is a small market town in the north-east of England, until
recently in the county of Humberside but after local government re-organisation
returned to the county of the East Riding of Yorkshire: important for those who
care about such things. It is a thriving town of almost 4000 people with an
active commercial centre and important manufacturing and service industries in
the town itself and on the outskirts. It boasts the main office of the Press
Association 'PA Listings' company with an important presence on the
internet. If your require more information on the history of the town or a
list of companies you can email
